Tax Alert: Economic stimulus package
features $300 billion in net tax cuts
About $300 billion is net tax cuts are contained in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Tax Act of 2009, passed by Congress and signed by President Obama on Feb. 17.
The cuts cover a wide range of taxes for both businesses and individuals, and BDO Seidman, LLP, has issued a special Washington Tax Report looking at the act’s tax provisions and how they affect businesses and individuals.
Some of the items for businesses include extending the bonus depreciation, a higher limit on vehicle depreciation, and extending the first-year expensing provisions for property placed in service.
For individuals, a few of the provisions include a patch for 2009 to the alternative minimum tax, increased education credits, and an increase in the first-time homebuyer credit.
